Within the last five months, Spotify has added over nine million paying subscribers, average of 1.8 million people per month.
Spotify’s Global Head of Creator Services and former Atom Factory boss,Troy Carter, revealed Spotify’s latest growth in a Billboard interview confirming that Spotify has more than 39m subscribers worldwide. At this rate, it will exceed the incredible 50 million mark by the end of the first quarter of 2017 – the fastest in Spotify’s history. That also translates as, some sources suggest, double the count of Apple Music’s subscription base of 15m (Apple’s last official number in June).
The last official number of subscriber was confirmed by Spotify’s CEO, Daniel EK, last March when the company has moved beyond 30m subs.
It is indeed a numbers game the giants are scoring right now. The spotlight on these numbers came up again after Lucian Grainge, Universal head, the recent ban on Apply Music exclusive deals among his labels.
